As I saw my life face to face, vulnerable to be lost. In a position were you understand you either relax and take charge or your fear will be what causes you to finish your own life. I knew I had to accept how vulnerable I was in that moment, but also not be afraid. I needed to acknowledge how valuable and fragile life is, yet fight to stay alive with an attitude of “I can survive this”.

Lessons learned:

Being alive is a gift

Only you can be your own hero

Being alive is a gift

We always have goals that keep us motivated, yet when those goals take time to be realized we can derail from what is most important. Even if our life goals are not lining up in the time we expect or evolve like we wanted them to, we still need to stay focused. We must not lose focus of what is most important in life, just being alive is the greatest gift. The rest is just baloney, nothing matches up to how important it is to just be alive. When you are faced with death, you realize how everything else, is just so insignificant. How we tend to forget to be grateful, to be breathing. It is so easy to take our living for granted.

We see death in movies and know it exists. We just usually think it is so far and distant from ourselves. That death will not happen to us, that we are somehow protected from it because we have so much to accomplish and do on earth. We think that because we feel we are not yet done with the world, that the world will not be done with us as a result.

Tragic events usually happen, when we hold grudges for too long. That they start to take a toll on our daily life’s, incidents happen to remind us that if we are not forgiving. There is consequences, in the long run, they will manifest in our life over and over. Until we let go, of that weight we are carrying. This weight is keeping us from achieving many things, because it is holding us from feeling light and free.

Let’s let go, before it is too late. Before that weight becomes so heavy that we drown do to its heaviness. Let the past remain in the past, if we keep thinking about it, we keep recreating it in other forms. We want to attract good things, then let’s let go of all the bad things that ever happened to us. Yes, it was not fair, but it already happened and we can’t change the past, only do something about today and how we approach the future.

Only you can be your own hero

Only we can be there for ourselves, at the end of the day. We depend on our perspective of ourselves to love and appreciate our own life. We must not let anyone make us feel guilty for anything, to the degree that we believe our worth is less because of a mistake we made. We cannot allow anyone to make us feel that anything material that we may accidentally lose or damage is more valuable than our own life. Being alive is more valuable than all the gold in the world, money can not buy our life back.

When we are in a moment of feeling like our life is at stake. We are the only ones that can be a hero for ourselves by reacting the required way to survive. We are responsible to maintain a calm and collected posture. If we do this, we will have the right mental clarity to get ourselves out of any sticky situation we may find ourselves in.

It is like starring at a shark and letting it know you are not afraid. Our duty when faced with death is to acknowledge it but not be afraid of the possibility. It is as if the world can smell your fear, and if you give in your will only attract more tragedy. For this reason, it is crucial to be aware of your feelings and decide how to respond instead of letting out reactions take over on autopilot.

    Hey adilene,
This was a great read! I was recently in a car accident and it was quite bad. I was left almost bed-ridden and the pain was horrendous. In fact, it still is unbearable. But your post truly resonates with me because as a result of the accident, I was able to appreciate life for what it truly is and it made me realize everything happens for a reason. It is so important as you said, to let go of our feelings of guilt, sadness, anger, whatever it is in order for us to move on or else it will just keep bringing us down and taking us much further from full recovery. Thank you for the motivating post and I look forward to reading more from you!
    cheers,
    Sasha

      Hi Tom,

      Hi Jeff,

I resonate with you on relearning how to view life in a positive light. I believe we a have a different path to finding that new perspective and also need to persevere to retain it and make it part of our daily thinking habits. In my perspective I find it to be an essential tool to help us grow. We will have moments of disappointment but it is crucial we know how to bounce back to having a balanced view and positive outlook. Most important, we can be positive but not feel happy with ourselves. We also, must accept ourselves and do what makes our soul joyful.
Thank you, Jeff for your comment.

Very inspirational message! So many things can happen in our day to day lives that distract us from what’s important in life. I feel like if everybody had this approach then our world would be a much better place. I’ve had personal experiences with what you are saying here in your article so I can definitely testify that what you are saying is true.

      Hi Dan,

I strongly agree with you in regard to losing track of what really matters when we let ourselves get caught up in our daily life. I also believe that it would be wonderful if most people had a great appreciation for life. It is heart-warming that you identify with my personal experience, and it is really nice of you to stop by.
